I allowed myself to simply stand on the subway and look around. In front of me was a mom, a dad, and a young kid. The mom was wearing a blingy sequined hat and the dad was lean and slight with a shy grin and a street-aware stoop. The kid was positively beaming that her mom and dad were so goofy and cool.
I let the people around me in for the first time in a while. It felt good.
It’s hard to do that when you’re nervous. I’ve been too worried about money, but now I’m going to focus on cultivating friends and celebrating that I’ve survived this far.
At least I’m aware of my mistakes as I’m making them.
