26 February 2005 (yesterday) (tomorrow)

My true friend Regina gives very precise directions.  My instructions were to appear at the northwestern side of 6th Ave. between 43rd and 44th St. at 3:15 p.m. Regina explained that this is how you have to give directions this way in New York, the intersections are so huge.

She was late arriving, so I picked up "Swann's Way," which I lost on the train yesterday.  We finally met out front and saw an exhibit of work by Eugene Meatyard.  We then walked up 5th Ave. to the Park; Regina wanted to see Christo's gates.  She talked about all the chi-chi stores, including De Beers, where she gets her diamonds.

I took some video; we wandered west and Regina then recommended that we have dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant.   We took the 1 from just north of Lincoln Center and found a little place tucked away on Baxter.  We sat at a large table with a small family.  The guy sitting next to me turned out to be a college instructor too; we chatted about the problems involved with working in the for-profit educational sector.
